Methodology & editorial standards

Every calculator on themoneysheet is built to answer three questions: what is the number, is it good or bad for a business like yours, and what should you watch out for.

Where our numbers come from

Tax rates, contribution limits, depreciation tables, and platform fees are stored in a single versioned constants file, each value tagged with its source and effective date. Federal tax figures for 2025 and 2026 come directly from IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32 and related notices, reflecting the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) changes to Section 179, bonus depreciation, and QBI. Figures are current as of 2026-07-02.

How we interpret results

Each result includes benchmark bands and a plain-English verdict. We label every benchmark as either authoritative (a defined standard with a citation, such as the 1.25× lender DSCR minimum) or a rule of thumb (a common industry heuristic). We never present a rule of thumb as if it were law.
